FDOT Grant for New Hope Mobiles

Two new Hope PACE “Hope Mobiles” will be on the road this season as the result of a $290,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.

Hope will use the grant funds from FDOT’s Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program to add to their fleet vehicles for Hope PACE – a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly – for those who want to remain independent in their communities and in their own homes.

The Hope Mobiles transport participants to and from Hope’s PACE Centers in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties.

“Adding additional capacity to our fleet of Hope Mobiles helps us serve even more people in the community who will benefit from our PACE programs,” said Samira K. Beckwith, president and CEO of Hope HealthCare Services. “The FDOT grant allows us to help ensure the safety and comfort of those in our care.”

The grant will be used to purchase a 26-foot-long bus with lift and capacity for up to 12 ambulatory seats and four wheelchairs, as well as a low-floor bus with ramp and capacity for eight ambulatory seats and five wheelchairs. The two new buses expand the Hope PACE fleet to 16 vehicles. The FDOT grant also will be used to purchase GPS navigational units for the buses and cell phones for fleet communication.

The one year anniversary of the death of my dear friend Jan Smith is near. She was blessed to be under the care of your wonderful staff at Hospice of Lehigh. My thanks to your entire organization for all done for her and myself, and an added thank you for your letters of support and comfort. They always seem to come at a time when they’re most needed. God Bless everyone connected with Hope.

When my mother was transferred from the hospital to Hope Hospice, I felt like it was the closest thing to heaven for someone with only a short time left on Earth. My wish would be for any terminal person to be able to die in comfort - especially a child.
